A new program is getting Bradenton police out of their cars and into the communities they serve.

  • Officers to engage, communicate with public
  • Police officials said program to take place throughout the city

The Bradenton Police Department has kicked off their new initiative called Walkin' the Beat.

Officers are expected to log one hour of walking the streets during their daily shifts. Officials said the officers will talk to residents and answer questions.

The program is taking place 24 hours day, seven days a week throughout the city in all neighborhoods.

"When you get out their in the community and start talking to people, they start trusting you more," said Master Patrol Officer Justin Gause. "Especially in this time of need. Where alot of police officers aren't liked, during this situation. So I think it works well."

Police officials said the program has no special components but can go a long way toward easing tension between officers and residents.
