  • Incident occurred in area of Spring Hill Drive and Broad Street
  • Deputy noticed motor home pulling trailer had no tag light
  • K9 team called to scene helped located marijuana

According to Hernando Sheriff's Office officials, the deputy pulled the 1998 Coachman motor home over because he noticed the trailer it was towing did not have a tag light.

The deputy reported that as he approached the driver's side of the motor home, he noticed the driver, Cody Bean, 33, leave the driver's seat and move to the back of the RV. Using his flashlight, the deputy saw Bean rifling through a backpack at the rear of the RV. Bean then motioned that he would open the RV's door to speak with the deputy.

While speaking to Bean, the deputy noticed the smell of marijuana coming from the RV. When asked if there were any illegal substances inside, Bean said, "no," then refused to allow the deputy to look inside.

At that point, the deputy called a K9 team to the scene. While the K9 team was en route, Bean told the deputy that "there may be some weed over the sink."

Two K9 teams that responded to the scene confirmed the presence of an illegal substance while walking around the motor home. A subsequent search of the motor home's interior found three separate baggies containing a green, leafy substance that field tested positive for THC, as well as $2,816.88 in cash in the backpack and throughout the vehicle.

Bean was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and possession of contraband. He was transported to the Hernando County Detention Center, where his bond was set at $2,000.
