A Pasco County student is heading to Carnegie Hall. Shane Falco, 16, was chosen out of thousands to perform at the iconic concert venue in New York City.

Shane started playing the trumpet five years ago -- and he hasn't put it down since.

"I enjoy it a lot, it's really grown on strong connection to me, and it's become a really big passion to where I want to make it a career," Shane said.

Shane plays for Fivay High School's marching, concert, and jazz band. Although, he says he doesn't have a preference in music.

"Is it pleasing to the ear? Yes, then I'll play it," Shane said.

His music was pleasing enough to land him a spot on the honors performance series at Carnegie Hall.

Allison Synnett, Falco's band director said, "He puts in a ton of time practicing. He comes in the morning to warn up before school, he's in jazz band, he's in regular band, he stays after school to help students get better."

That dedication led Shane to be one of the 750 students chosen out of a pool of 18,000 nominations around the globe.

Shane said, "When we get to those big moments in music you can just feel the emotional connection everyone is having."

Shane will be headed to New York in February, where he'll get to play for and learn from world-renowned conductors.
