Students at USF are having mixed feelings about Coach Willie Taggart taking the head coaching job at Oregon after the Bulls' recent 10-win season.

  • USF Coach Willie Taggart has accepted new position
  • Students had mixed, but supportive reaction
  • Next season he'll lead University of Oregon's program

While USF fans said they’re mad he’s leaving, they understand why and wish Taggart the best at his new position. They say he earned this new opportunity.

“He’s been around since my freshman year in 2013, and watching him build up this program is where I feel like he gained the most respect,” said student Steven Briner.

Freshman Trent Fox, a diehard USF football fan, said the news hit him hard.

“I will say I just took a final and bombed it,” Fox joked. “I feel like this has weighed me down. I probably would have gotten 20 percent higher if he stayed. I bet students at Oregon are rocking their final exams right now."

USF players had a team meeting this afternoon to discuss the move.
