Mothers Against Drunk Driving held its annual remembrance vigil in Temple Terrace Thursday. The event, now in its 30th year, aims at being a reminder of the dangers of drunk driving, especially during the holiday season.

This year, the Annual Candlelight Vigil of Remembrance of Hope took place at the First Baptist Church of Temple Terrace.

During the ceremony, a special candle was lit for Hillsborough Deputy Larry Morrell, who retired from the Sheriff's Office this year. A dedicated advocate battling drunk driving throughout his career, Morrell now faces a battle against stage 4 pancreatic cancer.

Also among those remembered with a lit candle at the ceremony was Hillsborough Deputy John Kotfila. Kotfila was killed by a wrong way driver in a crash on the Selmon Expressway in March.

Kotfila's sister and cousin, both at this time training to be deputies themselves, lit candles for him.
