A school resource officer in Citrus County has received a huge honor. Deputy Mitch Cook has worked at Lecanto Middle School for the past five years.

  • School's 'positive referrals' named for school resource officer
  • Lecanto Middle renamed recognition for Deputy Mitch Cook
  • Principal says Cook had positive influence during 5 years at school

The school gives "positive referrals" to students when they are caught doing good things. Because of Cook's positive influence on the kids while he worked there, the school renamed the recognition in his honor — The Deputy Mitch Cook Positive Referral.

The principal at Lecanto Middle, Brian Lancaster, said Cook always makes it a priority to help troubled kids with a positive approach instead of a negative one.

One student has already received the first Deputy Cook Award.
