It may be hard to be 10 years old and told you're too young to help those in need.

  • Everyday Hero Rachel Dennison collected pet supplies
  • Rachel was first told she was too young to help pets
  • She collected supplies on her own to donate to the SPCA

Rachel Dennison pushed aside any such notions when she decided to lend a hand to 4-legged friends, which have become just as important as the 2-legged variety.

Look up animal lover in the dictionary, and you may could very well see a picture of Dennison.

In addition to cats and dogs, she loves rodents and horses.

But when she tried to volunteer at the local SPCA, she was told she was still too young.

That's when she went to Plan B.

"I wanted to help them in another way," said Dennison. "So I started handing out flyers in my neighborhood and on it, it said that every Saturday I would come and pick up stuff (for pets) at their door."

Pulling her wagon from door-to-door in her neighborhood resulted in a full cart of goodies. Dennison donated the collected pet supplies to the SPCA.

"I just think that if I keep on helping it's going to make a difference," said Dennison, who plans to be a veterinarian when she grows up. "And I just think if I donate to them the animals will have a better chance of living. They'll have a better chance of having a good life."
