Here's a look at Tampa weather for overnight Friday into Saturday morning:

  • Mostly clear to partly cloudy through morning
  • Drier air moves into Nature Coast from northeast
  • Rain chances at around 40 percent

Skies will stay mostly clear to partly cloudy through morning. Low temperatures will be in the low 70s to 80 degrees.  A few storms could start at the coast before morning.

This weekend some drier air moves into the Nature Coast from the northeast. This could lower the rain chances for areas north of Tampa Bay.

From Tampa and south the rain chance will be normal at around 40 percent. The low level easterly winds will remain light enough for the west coast sea breeze to develop and make some progress inland. Expect mainly afternoon thunderstorms each day.

The overall pattern shifts a little over the weekend, with the broad mid- to upper level ridge moving towards the Northeast U.S., with the upper level trough moving farther out into the Atlantic Ocean. The surface high pressure will build and strengthen somewhat, but with the axis remaining north of the region this means a light east-southeast flow will continue across the Florida peninsula.

Due to the weaker flow, this should allow the west coast sea breeze to move inland a little farther. With low level moisture still around, we will see scattered showers and thunderstorms develop along the sea breezes. We will also see more storms developing along outflow boundaries in the afternoon and evening moving westward into our area, with a slightly stronger east coast sea breeze. Some storms may become strong..
