While Donald Trump was accepting his party’s nomination Thursday night, more than 100 people gathered in Orlando's College Park neighborhood to hob nob with Republican candidates.

A ballroom at the Dubsdread County Club was packed with political supporters and candidates ahead of Trump’s official nomination speech.

The hob nob event was thrown by the Orange County Young Republicans but open to any party.

“It’s just to show unity with all the Republicans. We’ve got a bunch of candidates here, we’ve got voters young and old and it’s just a great way to get together and show that we’re united going into August, but more importantly, going into November,” Orange County Young Republicans President Nick Primrose said.

Jarett Cathcart is an avid Trump supporter but says it’s the smaller, local races that are just as important as the national ones.

“Events like these local hob nobs bring the community together. You really learn about the candidates, and you interact with them. There are actually a lot of them, and you get to learn about who they really are and what they are about.”

A hot topic for discussion Thursday night: Ted Cruz’s refusal to endorse Trump at the Republican National Convention on Wednesday night.

“I do believe he is going to vote for Donald Trump, because in the end, Donald Trump is not Hillary Clinton. I think that is what he was saying — ‘You can’t vote for Hillary Clinton; you have to vote for Donald Trump,’” Primrose said.

As the local races heat up, those at the hob nob said at least the national one has chosen the right nominee — for them and America.

“It’s a huge sigh of relief, but I can also tell you the process has really energized Republicans. We have a lot of young Republicans that are really excited about Trump and really excited about the next two months,” Primrose said.

The Orange County Young Republicans have no future hob nob plans but additional events could be added following the August primaries.
