A man police say was defending his wife was shot twice Saturday night outside his Haines City home, once in the stomach and the other in the groin area.

  • Victim said suspect and another man were disrespecting wife
  • Victim told them to stop
  • Police said he was shot twice while walking away

Police say Bradley Mills was outside his home on the 2300 block of Mason Avenue when two houses down he heard and saw two men staring and whistling at his wife.

Police said Mills walked into the street where the men were standing and told them to stop disrespecting his wife. At that time, police say his wife went into their home. Police say Mills was about to do the same when the men called to him.

Police say the victim ignored the men and started to walk back toward the home when he turned around and saw one of the men holding a gun.

Police say the suspect followed the victim back toward his home and shot at him several times. The victim told his wife to call 911.

The suspect was located at his home and identified as Rolando Fernandez Rodriquez, 44. He was transported to the Polk County Jail and charged with attempted second-degree murder.

Mills was treated for two gunshot wounds.
