A St. Petersburg man is accused of setting his girlfriend on fire.

Police arrested John Martin Riggins, 37, on the charge of attempted first-degree murder on Monday.

On July 5, police say Riggins and his girlfriend, Sheron Pasco, 37, got in an argument at their home on the 2800 block of 24th Avenue South.

According to reports, at some point during the argument Pasco's uncle said she became engulfed in flames. While the family was trying to help her, Riggins ran away.

Riggins was taken to the Pinellas County Jail and booked. Pasco still remains in critical condition at a local hospital.
