The Lake Wales Medical Center held a dedication ceremony Tuesday with a bench and plaque in honor of Pulse Night Club terrorist attack victim Amanda Alvear.

  • Amanda Alvear remembered as funny, energetic
  • Bench will be painted purple in her honor
  • "It's such a big love," mother says

Alvear had been a pharmacy tech at the hospital but left work there a couple of weeks before the attack to pursue a career as a nurse.

"She was wonderful. She was funny. She was energetic," said pharmacy tech Jordan Oliver about Alvear. "I don't think I ever saw her have a bad day."

Oliver said Alvear made coming to work a more pleasant experience.

"I always looked forward to when I saw her name on the schedule," Oliver said. "It was always a good day if she was here."

Alvear's mother, Mayra Alvear, was one of the speakers at the dedication ceremony outside of the hospital.

"It's such a big support," she said. "It's such a big love. That's what made me happy. That she was loved and she spread love everywhere."

There were lots of tears during the event.

"It was emotional because it was horrible what happened to her," Oliver said. "But it is emotional because she is extremely missed."

The bench used during the dedication ceremony was blue but will be replaced with a purple bench because purple was Amanda Alvear’s favorite color.
