Police in Lakeland are looking for the culprit in a shooting death.

  • Victim identified as Johnathan Charles-Pierre, 35
  • Investigators say victim died at scene
  • Shooter fled scene in a green vehicle

Officers responded just before 11 p.m. Monday to the 900 block of Castle Way.

Johnathan "Jay" Charles-Pierre, 35, was found with a gunshot wound to his chest. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A witness at the residence told police that a black man knocked on the door, pointed a handgun at him and demanded that he call Charles-Pierre to the door.

Charles-Pierre approached with a handgun but was shot by the suspect, police said.

The man fled the scene, firing several more shots before getting into a vehicle. The vehicle was described as green, with four doors.

There were no other injuries reported.

Detectives were still at the scene Tuesday morning and ask that anyone with information call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-226-8477.
