What would you do if you were stuck in a building with a gunman?

A St. Petersburg community event, focused on active shooter training, wants to help with that terrifying scenario.

Law enforcement says it’s a sign of the times, and while it’s a situation you hope to never find yourself in, it’s one St. Petersburg Police and St. Petersburg Fire Rescue want you to be prepared for.

St. Pete Police and Fire teamed up to host the seminar Thursday evening at the Coliseum in St. Petersburg.

They’ll be using a program developed by the Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training Center at Texas State University.

Citizens will be taught the avoid, deny, defend strategy.

The event is free to attend, but you are asked to RSVP as seating is limited.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and the seminar runs from 6:30-8:30 p.m.
