A pedestrian in Hillsborough County was killed just after midnight Saturday when he was struck while crossing Bearss Avenue, according to Hillsborough County deputies.

  • Accident happened in poorly lit area, deputies say
  • Felipa was not using a crosswalk

Deputies say Humprhey Felipa, 39, of Casselberry, was crossing Bearss Avenue east of Livingston Avenue at approximately 12:10 a.m. It's a poorly lit area, according to deputies, and Felipa reportedly was not using a crosswalk or other traffic control device.

Felipa was struck by a 2000 Lincoln Navigator driven by Anthony Chavez, 26. Chavez and his passenger did not flee the scene after the crash. Investigators say they showed no signs of impairment.

First responders transported Felipa to Florida Hospital Fletcher, where he was prounced dead.

Investigators have released no further information at this time.
