This weekend, while the SouthShore Sharks youth football team play an away game against the Lake Maggiore Gators, league organizers will continue efforts to find a permanent venue for them to play home games.

  • Group aims to help young people through athletics
  • About 150 kids take part in group's football, cheerleading programs

The non-profit organization, founded three years ago in Hillsborough County, currently subleases a field in Gibsonton. But organizers said it’s a hefty price to pay for their nonprofit to succeed.

“Every time it seems we get a little funds, we have to pay for everything,” said SouthShore Sharks Club Athletic Director Josiah Davis. “We have to pay to play games on fields on the county park, we have to pay to stock concessions, but this is all for the children and a lot of people don’t see that.”

About 150 children take part in their football and cheerleading programs. The tackle football team's 2016 season started in late June and runs through October 8.
