Six suspects have been arrested in connection to a string of car dealership burglaries.

The crime spree – which reportedly included Hernando and Polk counties – ended in Citrus when deputies apprehended what they described as a group of young men likely involved in organized crime.

  • 6 men arrested in Citrus on Wednesday
  • Deputies say they were discovered breaking into a local car dealership
  • They believe the same men are responsible for other burglaries across the state

Just before 4 a.m. Wednesday, deputies responded to the Plaza Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram dealership in Inverness when they heard an alarm go off while on a nearby call. Once they arrived, deputies say they saw the men running across the dealership's parking lot. They scattered on foot, but three were apprehended immediately.

To bring the suspects into custody, the Sheriff’s Office utilized their K-9, aviation and patrol units. According to Lt. John Novy, the bust was another major win for the department.

"This is the third time in several months we have successfully arrested organized crime groups from outside our area," said Lt. Novy.

After the arrests, deputies say they discovered the men had stolen two vehicles from previous robberies. Those were reportedly recovered and taken into evidence.

"A lot of crimes were just solved for other agencies," said Sheriff Jeff Dawsy.
