A suspect who fled from Hillsborough County deputies while they searched his vehicle early Wednesday turned himself in later in the day, still wearing handcuffs, according to the Sheriff's Office.

  • Incident occurred just after midnight Wednesday
  • Deputies found 20 baggies containing heroin during search
  • Marijuana also found in car during search

Officials say around midnight Wednesday Hillsborough deputies conducted a traffic stop near Fowler Avenue and 22nd Street in Tampa for a traffic violation. While interacting with the two passengers in the vehicle, deputies spotted marijuana in the car.

Deputies handcuffed both suspects as they stood outside of the car and searched them and the car. They found 20 "baggies" containing heroin on one of the suspects, and confirmed the presence of marijuana in the car.

While the deputies were conducting the search, one of the suspects, Jesus Manuel Angulo-Ocacio, 22, the one authorities said had the baggies of heroin on him, fled on foot and was able to elude the deputies. At one point, Tampa Police officers aided deputies in a search of the surrounding area, but they did not find the suspect.

According to the Sheriff's Office, at approximately 6:50 p.m., Angulo-Ocacio, still wearing handcuffs, turned himself in. Officials said he will be transported to the Orient Road jail facility as soon as investigators finish interviewing him.

Angulo-Ocacio is currently charged with escape and possession of heroin, and could possibly face other charges.
