Six people were displaced after an overnight fire in Hernando County.

The fire occurred just after 2:30 a.m. Tuesday in the 6300 block of Sun Hill Lane. Crews arrived at the home and saw heavy smoke and flames coming from the residence.

The blaze was brought under control at about 3 a.m., according to the Hernando County Fire Department.

Officials said a father at the home discovered the fire, which started in a bathroom. He suffered minor burn injuries and smoke inhalation.

No other injuries were reported.

The fire department said the home had smoke detectors, but that the devices weren't working.

The department wants to remind residence to test their alarms regularly and change the batteries twice a year.
