Every morning, in the dark, more than 75 students ranging in age from five to 18 gather along Bristol Bay Way at US 41/50th St S inTampa to wait for the school bus.

It's a chaotic scene according to New Life Village Resident Theresa Kite, who is afraid for the safety of the kids who catch the bus here. She wants help from the School District.

"Cars are zooming down, 50, 60 miles per hour on 50th Street," she said. "Cars trying to get in and out of this one exit, in and out of Bristol Way and New Life Village."

Celll phone video taken from the stop shows a half-dozen cars and trucks drive past the stopped bus as children are boarding in the dark.

Tanya Arja, spokeswoman for the Hillsborough County School District, said they've looked at the stop and have not seen an issue.

"We have sent our safety director out to this bus stop in response to this individual's concerns.  We do not feel the bus stop is unsafe."

Kite would like to see uniformed officers to direct traffic and assure the safety of the students and parents, however, the district says it will not cover that expense.

Private security should be arranged by the homeowners and residents.
