Plans are in the works to renovate the Toronto Blue Jays spring training facility in Dunedin.

  • Renovations could be complete by spring training 2019
  • Hotel bed tax fees will help fund project
  • Team has trained in Dunedin since 1977

The city held an open house Tuesday night to showcase the $81 million project.

Residents who talked to Bay News 9 said they're happy with the plans. And team officials are excited with the large number of people that turned out to look at the project.

“It tells me the residents of this city are engaged and excited and interested, and they’re curious about what we're planning for,” said Andrew Miller, the team’s executive vice president for business operations.

“All the questions have been positive, and people are excited to see the plans and hear that we're interested in staying,” Miller said.

City officials plan to get the majority of the money to pay for the renovations from hotel bed tax fees.

If all goes as planned, the renovations will be completed by spring training in 2019.
