Hillsborough County's Public Transportation Commission is still working out details with ridesharing services Uber and Lyft.

Commissioner Victor Crist, chairman of the PTC, is holding a news conference Thursday to update the public.

  • Public Transportation Commission previously dropped some demands for Uber/Lyft
  • Fingerprinting of drivers still a sticking point
  • Another meeting set for October

The Hillsborough Public Transportation Commission and  Uber and Lyft are attempting to settle ongoing rifts over regulations. Uber officials and drivers are in attendance.

Earlier this month, the PTC said it was willing to drop demands for a $7 minimum fare and a required wait time of seven minutes for passengers, which have been huge sticking points for Uber and Lyft.

But Uber and Lyft drivers have objected to the PTC's stance on fingerprints, which the PTC says has to be done to drivers to promote safety for passengers.

The PTC had proposed the new rules recently including fingerprinting and level two background checks for drivers, along with the $7 minimum fares and required wait time for passengers.

In the meantime, local lawmakers still want transportation officials to wait on an approved statewide framework from the 2017 legislative session.
