Representative Daniel Webster, (R) 11th Congressional District, was booed for refusing to answer questions at an appearance in Inverness.

  • When he didn't answer, they booed and became agitated

Webster was attending a ribbon cutting for his new office when people in the audience started shouting questions at him.

They wanted to know if he planned to call for an investigation in the Trump administration's possible ties to Russia, and had questions about what Webster plans to do about the Affordable Care Act.

"We could have had a dialogue with our Representative but he chose not to," said Wendy Williams.

Congressman Webster cut the ribbon and told the crowd his office would be open to serve them.

"We're here, we're announcing on this day that this office is open to every person here and we're going to help you in any way possible," he said.

Audience members said he then abruptly left the building after only a few minutes.

"I know that these were people who were looking to have a respectful dialogue and because he refused to take any questions it did escalate into boos and a little bit of foul language and people were just frustrated," Williams said.

Before leaving Washington for the break, GOP lawmakers were told to keep a close eye on security during their events.

Some lawmakers have said they're encouraged to see people showing up and getting involved but others have cancelled town hall meetings and public appearances because of protests.
