Local, award winning talent is on display at the ArtCenter Manatee for the annual aqueous show by the Florida Suncoast Watercolor Society.

  • ArtCenter Manatee hosts the artists each year

One hundred paintings are on display for the annual exhibition. Executive Director Carla Nierman said what makes the show special is that all of the artists are local and regional. Nierman said many of the artists use their environment as inspiration.

"We are impacted by our area and the light that is in Florida so what I find out that stands out the most is color. In this exhibit there's a lot of color that is used which tells me we are so impacted creatively by what we see," Nierman said.

The exhibition is filled with bright watercolors that all seem to tell a different story. Nierman said the work is done by artists of all ages.

"The youngest one that is in this exhibit is 25," said Nierman, "but they go all the way up. The beautiful thing about art is there are no age limitations. You don't have to retire."

The Florida Suncoast Watercolor Society's award winning work will be on display at ArtCenter Manatee through Feb. 24.

"The talent in this state is impressive it's known as the watercolor coast and we find that the talent is growing exponentially there's a big movement in watercolor and they seem to be right on that wave," Nierman said.
