TECO Gas crews have secured a gas leak in Hillsborough County that prompted some evacuations.

It occurred before 11 a.m. Wednesday in the 8600 block of West Hillsborough Avenue. The area is near a strip mall and apartment complex.

Construction crews hit a gas line in the area.

Corey Dierdorff of Hillsborough Fire Rescue said there were some evacuations but wasn't immediately sure how many.

At about noon, crews clamped the leak, and those evacuated were being allowed to return to their homes.

Hillsborough Fire Rescue posted on Twitter that TECO has responded to assist.
