  • Davis has 150 hours under his belt this school year

Davis comes to the school in the early afternoon, while he is off duty, and helps put books away in the media center. After school is out he helps gets kids on school buses. Sometimes he even helps answer school phones.

Davis also comes dressed in his uniform on Great American Teach In days.

Davis said his real motivation for volunteering is his own children. Three have attended or are attending Churchwell. He gets a lot of satisfaction out of volunteering.

“I love it. I love the kids. Mine or not,” he said.

Davis has volunteered about 150 hours already this school year. Principal Wallace Selph said Davis is a great example of bridging the gap between home and school.

“Because we are with your children half of their waking hours and if you can come here then you can be with them more than half of their waking hours like we are,” Principle Selph said.

Davis believes his example of making education a priority has rubbed off on his children. He said they all get straight As.

“They know what’s expected of them and it’s their job to get good grades, just like it's my job to go to work and bring home money for them,” he said.

Davis also volunteers at Stambaugh Middle School where his wife is a teacher. One of his children also attends Stambaugh Middle.
