Gateway Airport will officially be able to keep the funding for their air traffic control tower.

The airport announced monday that the Federal Aviation Administration will not cut off funding. The sequester means dozens of control towers at regional airports across the country are on the chopping block.

However, Congressman Alan Grayson helped the airport plead its case as being strategically important to the military.

Grayson says the tower at the airport also helps traffic control for Orlando International Airport, and protects Disney's flight restricted area.

Now the goal is to make sure that funding for the airport continues past September, when the fiscal calendar ends.

Other Central Florida towers on the chopping block:

  • New Smyrna Beach
  • Ormond Beach
  • Ocala International
  • Leesburg International
  • Space Coast Regional in Titusville
