  • Not date set when Nintendo-themed areas will come to Universal Orlando

On Tuesday, Universal Parks & Resorts expounded on a partnership announced about a year-and-a-half ago, and it's being touted as a "historic" collaboration with Nintendo.

According to the theme park's official blog, Nintendo-themed areas are coming to Universal Orlando Resort, Universal Studios Japan and Universal Studios Hollywood.

"Imagine the fun of stepping into a larger-than-life Nintendo adventure," wrote Universal Orlando Public Relations Vice President Tom Schroder. "Gigantic Piranha Plants spring to life. Question blocks, power-ups and more surround you. And Mario and all his friends are there to pull you into a brand-new world. You’ll enter an entire realm filled with iconic Nintendo excitement, gameplay, heroes and villains."

The themed areas will have multiple attractions, shops and restaurants. Planning and creative work on these areas is well underway. They will open separately over the next several years.

"We're going to be able to create an entire Nintendo world," said Mark Woodbury, president of Universal Creative. "As we continue to develop it, that world became more immersive and more involved and more colorful and more exciting and more interactive."

Each Universal theme park will announce details of its specific Nintendo areas. There is no set date as to when Orlando's will make an announcement.
