Several new “Star Wars” experiences and enhancements were announced during a special, after-hours event at Walt Disney World Monday.

  • Disney announced new Star Wars-related additions for guests
  • "Star Wars: A Galaxy Far, Far Away" is getting a few new things
  • There will be a seven-hour guided tour coming to Hollywood Studios

The highlight of the event was the transformation of Epcot’s iconic Spaceship Earth into the Death Star.

The temporary change celebrated the upcoming film “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” as well as new Star Wars experiences coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

One of the stars of the film, Mads Mikkelsen, who plays Galen Erso, made a surprise appearance on stage. Mikkelsen was asked what he could share about his character without giving too much away.

“He’s a scientist, he’s working on something that potentially has the ability to make the world a better place,” said Mikkelsen. “But unfortunately he also has the ability to make the world a much worse place.”

Mikkelsen also shared an exclusive clip from the film with the audience. It featured a confrontation between Erso and Director Orson Krennic (Ben Mendelsohn).

“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” arrives in theaters Dec. 16.

To top off the special event, Disney made several announcements about the Star Wars-related additions guests can expect to see at Hollywood Studios.

Starting Dec. 16, Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular will return. The nighttime fireworks and projection show will join Jingle Bell, Jingle BAM! for nightly performances. According to Disney, the show will continue into 2017.

Guests can enjoy props and artwork from “Rogue One” at Star Wars Launch Bay, joining other Star Wars memorabilia. Footage from the film has been added to the “Meet the Makers” video in inside the Launch Bay.

A few changes are being made to Star Tours–the Adventures Continue. Randomized tracks are returning, meaning each ride experience will start and end at different locations each time. Also, new scenes will be added from the upcoming “Star Wars: Episode VIII” in the “coming year.”

The daytime stage show “Star Wars: A Galaxy Far, Far Away” is getting a few new additions. Soon, guests will be able to see AWR (Advanced Weapons Research) Troopers in the show. They will be outfitted in specialized dark armor.

One surprising announcement made during Monday night's event is specifically for ultimate “Star Wars” fans. A new seven-hour, yes seven hours, guided tour is coming to Hollywood Studios.

Guests will be fully immersed into the “Star Wars” experiences at the park. It will include character encounters, a screening of “Star Wars: Path of the Jedi,” Star Wars-themed food items at Backlot Express, an insider’s tour through Star Wars Launch Bay and more. The tours are expected to begin in 2017, although an official date has not been released.

Right now construction is underway at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Orlando and Disneyland in California for an entire land devoted to “Star Wars.”
