Water is life. Life is joy. That's the theme Universal says Volcano Bay, its water theme park currently under construction, is built on.

  • Universal unveiled details for Volcano Bay water theme park Tuesday
  • 18 attractions with Polynesian influences
  • Universal says it has found a way to eliminate lines at the rides

Universal Orlando unveiled details for the park at the IPW travel conference in New Orleans Thursday.

The park will feature 18 attractions, centered around a large volcano, Krakatau. In fact, there are body slides on the volcano.

The rides are broken down among four different areas with Polynesian influences from Hawaii, Easter Island and more.

  • Krakatau:
    • 3 different body slides with suprise doors that drop out beneath the riders: Ko'okiri Body Plunge, Kala and Ta Nui Serpentine Body Slides
    • Punga Racers: A high speed race featuring four slides that use manta shaped mats
    • A secret attraction Universal will not reveal yet
    • In addition, while waterfalls will be a daytime feature of the 200-foot-tall volcano, at night the volcano will "illuminate with blazing lava" according to the Universal site
  • Wave Village:
    • Waturi Beach: A multidirectional wave pool
    • The Reef: Leisure pool with calmer waters
  • River Village:
    • Kopiko Wai Winding River: A "lazy river" attraction with hidden caves and spontaneous water effects
    • Tot Tiki Reef: Children's play area
    • Runamukka Reef: A three-story water playground
    • Honu and Ika Moana: Multi-passenger raft rides
  • Rainforest Village:
    • Maku: A multipassenger "saucer ride"
    • Puihi: A multipassenger ride with a funnel and a zero-gravity drop
    • Ohyah and Ohno Drop Slides: Twisting sides that drop you four to six feet above the water at the end
    • TeAwa The Fearless River: A whitewater rapids river that uses inner tubes
    • Taniwha Tubes: Easter Island-inspired slides with rafts for single or double riders
    • Puka Uli Lagoon: A tranquil pool

Universal also promises that guests at the 28-acre park will not have to worry about long lines, or carrying a tube around. They are not yet saying how they will accomplish that.

Universal also says they have spread amenities like restaurants throughout the park, so guests won't have to head to the front of the park.

There is no official opening date yet for Volcano Bay. The park is currently under construction near Cabana Bay and the new Sapphire Falls resorts.
