For some, sinking your teeth into a grilled cheese sandwich is a holy experience. But what if it were even sweeter?

Jeff Miller, the top chef at Dunkin' Donuts, has a team of 24 in his secret test kitchen to do stuff like this.

"You know, it's kind of an Instagrammable dessert, right?" Miller asks.

Start by heating a pan, then use a serrated knife to cut into a chocolate doughnut. Smear on mascarpone cheese.

"Use it as a little bit of glue," Miller says.

Miller adds strawberries — but raspberries, blueberries, or even a banana would work, too.

Now, get it ready to grill it in a pan, like a grilled cheese sandwich.

"We're using the flat sides [of the cut doughnut] to create a flat, toasted surface," Miller says, then, "We're going to let that sit [in the pan], just like a grilled cheese."

While that cooks, Miller showed us a layered dessert called the chocolate doughnut trifle, using a chocolate doughnut cut into several pieces.

Take the pieces and put them in the bottom of a jar. Spray in a layer of whipped cream, then tap the jar on a cutting board to make it settle. Plop in some pudding and peanut butter cups, and layer it again in the same sequence.

Then top with some more whipped cream for presentation.

"It's like a dessert lasagna," Miller says.
