The Powerball jackpot has grown to an impressive $478 million, and there are many out there who hope to hit it in Saturday’s drawing.

Since its creation back in 2003, there have been many winners who have had their lives transformed by playing the Powerball, which is played in 44 states, Washington, D.C., the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.

Interestingly enough, or maybe not so, the majority of winners have taken the cash option instead of the annuity.

Below are the largest single and group winners from the last 10 years. Split winners (when two or more strangers who have hit the Powerball prize and had to share their winnings) were not included in this timeline.

The timeline’s information came from the Powerball website and various media reports.

And while the odds of winning the Powerball is 1 in 292,201,338, don’t tell these winners that.
