Looking for a new show to watch? Do you have eight hours to spend? If you haven't watched Netflix's newest series “Stranger Things,” you're really missing out.

You've probably heard about it from your friends and family. They've probably talked about how good and/or cool it is. And, they would be right.

“Stranger Things” became Netflix’s hit of the summer. In fact, the supernatural series beat the company’s other top shows including “House of Cards,” “Daredevil,” and “Making a Murderer.” It pulled in 8.2 million viewers during the first 16 days of its release, according to data collected by Business Insider.

Set in 1980s Indiana, the series focuses on the unusual circumstances surrounding the disappearance of a young boy named Will Byers. While his friends and family try to find him, they meet a mysterious girl and learn about secret government experiments. It's amazing.

If that isn't enough to convince you, here are five reasons you need to stop whatever you're doing and start binging this show. (No spoilers, I promise.)

1. The Soundtrack

One of the best parts of this "summer obsession" is the music. Viewers will notice several throwback pop songs sprinkled throughout the series. But the real winner is the creepy and eerie original music scored by members of the Austin-based band SURVIVE. The pulsing and synch sounds are what truly give the show its weird vibe. After an overwhelming plea from fans, “The Stranger Things” soundtrack was released in two volumes earlier this month.

2. 80s Nostalgia

If you grew up in the 1980s, or at least have a fondness for the decade, there are tons of references and nods you’ll enjoy. The entire series is basically a love letter to that decade. It’s a mix of “E.T.,” “The Goonies” and “Stand by Me,” with plenty of touches influenced by Steven Spielberg and Stephen King. It even has Winona Ryder, who was huge in the 80s.

The opening title sequence alone is your first clue that “Stranger Things” is pure nostalgia: electronic, synch music playing over retro-style graphics.

In addition to the music, the show is filled with other reference to the 80s. The kids in the show, when they’re not looking for their friend, play Dungeons and Dragons in a basement.  You’ll also notice throwbacks in the characters’ clothes, the props and even the practical effects the used by the directors.

3. The Kids Steal the Show

Enough cannot be said about the kids in this show. The performances are amazing all around, but the kids are the real gems.

After Will Byers goes missing, his friends (Mike, Lucas and Dustin) do everything they can to find him.

The actors have amazing chemistry. They are believable as bickering best friends who would do anything for each other.

However, Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) is the show’s standout. She has the least amount of dialogue of any other character and is able to convey so much emotion through just her stares. Also, the young actress willingly shaved her head for the part. Talk about commitment.

4. Winona Ryder

As previously mentioned, Winona Ryder is in this show. She plays the mother of missing Will Byers. Ryder is known for her roles in “Beetlejuice” and “Heathers,” both of which are 80s favorites.

It’s fun to see her back in spotlight, especially in a dark and edgy show like “Stranger Things.”

5. Creepy and Suspenseful

In case you haven’t figured it out yet, “Stranger Things” is creepy. For every cool throwback in the show, there are just as many suspenseful moments. Without giving too much away — I promised no spoilers, remember — things jump out at the screen and there are scenes that take place in complete darkness.  Be aware: walls move and lights flicker in this show.

Some might be too afraid to watch this alone at night.

Although Netflix has not officially renewed “Stranger Things” for a second season, its creators have said that next season will be “a little darker and weirder.” Can’t wait.
