The State Attorney's Office has decided not to file charges against Seminole County Tax Collector Ray Valdes.

In August, a man named Jacob Engels called Altamonte Springs Police and said Valdes battered him during an altercation.
On Monday, Brevard-Seminole State Attorney Phil Archer released a memo that said that although there is sufficient probable cause to pursue charges, prosecutors cannot prove it beyond a reasonable doubt. It said the office doesn't think it's likely to win in a trial.
But Archer also said Engels pursued an altercation with Valdes, and Valdes should understand that he's subject to questioning because he's a public official.
