Inconvenienced by having to pick up that Amazon package off your porch and bringing it into the home? With Amazon's new Key, the packages are waiting for you inside when you get home.

  • Amazon Key for Prime members
  • Good for only select cities, including Orlando, Tampa
  • Allows delivery people into your home

Amazon debuted the Amazon Key In-Home Kit on its website for $249.99. The kit is only available to Amazon Prime members in select cities, including the Orlando and Tampa areas.

The kit includes an Amazon Cloud Cam indoor security camera and a compatible smart lock.

Amazon says it will notify the homeowner before a delivery comes in, and it will authorize the delivery and unlock the door for the delivery person. The homeowner can then watch the delivery live on the Amazon Key app, or watch a video of it later. Amazon will then notify you when the delivery is done and will relock the door.

The system can also be used to give other people temporary access to your home, like out-of-town guests or house clearners.

Amazon is just the latest company to roll out a delivery system that brings the packages inside. Last month, Walmart began testing a service that allows a delivery driver into the home to put groceries away. With that service, the driver gets a one-time passcode for a smart lock.
