Rumors have swirled for months that Disney World might be developing a new transportation system.
Many people have speculated that the new system would be aerial, likely a network of cable cars (gondolas).
Recently filed permits seem to point to that possibility.
Reedy Creek Improvement District recently submitted plans to the South Florida Water Management District.
They were first spotted by members of the WDWMagic.com forum.
According to the documents, the project calls for construction near Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Epcot, and Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, which is set to undergo renovations.
What has piqued people’s interest are maps that show what appear to be elevated structures in that area.
Additional information included in the filing are proposed roadway, parking and walkway developments.
If Disney is planning a new transportation system, it would be very beneficial.
For one, an aerial system with cable cars would be high capacity, meaning it could accommodate a lot of people. Also, it would potentially alleviate congestion on the ground which is already clogged with guest vehicles, Disney Transportation buses, charter buses, and taxis.
Disney hasn’t released an official statement about the project.
The theme park has been working on multiple road projects in preparation for its upcoming park expansions, including Star Wars land which is set to open in 2019.
